What is Mikrotik?
MikroTik RouterOS is the operating system of MikroTik RouterBOARD. this OS can also be installed on a PC or virtual machine and turn it into a router with all the necessary features.
RouterOS is a stand-alone operating system based on the Linux v2.6 kernel, and our goal here at this tutorial is to provide all the connection methods for a starter client/administrator with a quick and step by step guide. This service gives us all the networking features in a simple environment but requires a bit of knowledge of computer networks as you would expect.

How to Connect Mikrotik VPS or Mikrotik Router?
There are many ways to connect a Mikrotik, we will describe just the Web, Winbox, and SSH on this tutorial.
- Web(www) Connection
- Winbox Connection
- SSH Connection

- CLI with Telnet, Local console and Serial console
This method is the easiest way to connect to Mikrotik and administrator the router through a browser, www is connecting over port 80 by default(HTTP) which is not recommended! Put the Router main IP in the browser URL bar and press Enter.
Insert Username and Password and click Login, here is a demo of www connection.
The recommended and secure method is Winbox, it is a small utility to manage your router( MikroTik RouterOS ), over a simple graphical environment. Also, it has a Terminal option to execute commands through this GUI. Winbox is available for Windows, IOS, Linux, and Android:
Download the software and install/run it.
Put the IP and credentials in fields and click on Connect.
Note: The Mikrotik default port is 8291, to connect through a specific port, insert the IP like 192.168.1.1:40410
This interface gives you all the options and features in the left panel, You can access the Terminal simply by clicking on New Terminal.
Since Mikrotik is a Linux based OS, you can also manage and execute commands through SSH, it will connect you directly to the Mikrotik Terminal.
